The European Theater of World War II took place in Europe. It began because of The Treaty of Versailles, when it was signed it took away a lot of Germanys land and most importantly took away almost all of their military.

League of Nations(April 28, 1919): Failed especially during the outbreak of WWII. Were not very good at solving problems. After Hitler took Germany out of the League of Nations, Mussolini of Fascist Italy and Hitler formed the Rome-Berlin axis, under a treaty known as the Pact of Steel.
